Feeder Boxes
Overview
Feeder boxes are precast refractory liners designed to evenly distribute molten metal into casting dies above low-pressure die casting stations. The outside structure of the Pyrotek feeder box is made from steel, while a layer of backup insulation supports Pyrotek reinforced fibreglass material (RFM®) refractory, which forms the working surface. Pyrotek’s feeder box design eliminates sharp edges and prevents turbulence that causes oxide formation in the molten metal. The smooth flowing surfaces also permit longer refractory lifetimes. Commonly, feeder boxes contain four die entry points; however, feeder boxes may be designed with any number of distribution points as needed.
Pyrotek Offerings
Pyrotek feeder boxes are made primarily from Pyrotek RFM, but can also be fabricated from calcium silicate board with mastic joints. RFM feeder boxes can be cast using refractory that is primarily calcium silicate (CS) for better insulation, fused silica (FS) for improved toughness or a blend of the two refractory types as desired. Pyrotek collaborates with customers to manufacture custom feeder boxes for any application.
