Sag/Press Ring Covering
Overview
Flat glass can be formed into shapes by placing the glass on a 3-D ring structure and heating it until gravity causes it to sump into the form of the ring. This ring can be covered with a soft textile to prevent marking of the glass during the sagging process.
In press bending, heated flat glass can be pressed against a mould with a press ring that supports the glass around the outside periphery. To avoid marking and heat flow from the press ring to the glass, a soft textile is used to cover the press ring.
