Electromagnetic Deep Filtration (EM-DF) System
Overview
The EM-DF is a ceramic foam filter (CFF) box used for filtering molten aluminium. It uses electromagnetic coils to prime the metal through a stack of CFFs. This is currently the only technology available on the market that can prime three CFFs at a time. It is also the only technology that is engineered with a tool for loading and removing filter stacks.
- Full priming of single and multiple CFFs
- Controlled priming via electromotive/Lorentz forces, dynamic metal velocity, and static metal head
- Standard filter box design with slightly deeper box and induction coils
- EM field applied only during the priming and draining stage
- Filtration operation on fully primed CFFs guarantees: 1) consistent filtration efficiency, 2) stable operation, 3) reliable performance
- The patented lifting tool is used to insert, locate and remove the filter stack
Benefits
- Able to prime multiple CFFs of different grades
- Reduced metal head height for priming compared to that required for a typical gravity head priming process
- Lower running costs and greater flexibility than a typical DBF system
- Able to drain a portion of the entrapped metal from the CFFs upon completion of the cast
- Able to provide high degree of automation
- Proven repeated operation in a production environment
- Less risk of failed casts due to floating/unprimed CFFs
- Easy to operate and low maintenance
Lifting Tool
- Makes automation possible
- Greatly improves operator safety
- Reduces the amount of filter debris that needs to be removed since filters are removed as one stack
