SNIF In-Line Degassing and Furnace Treatment Systems
Overview
Pyrotek SNIFTM (spinning nozzle inert flotation) degassing systems are the proven reliable, environmentally acceptable and cost effecient benchmark in aluminium refining. They are primarily used for ingot, billet and continuous casting applications. The primary role of a SNIF system is the refining of aluminium with significant and leading efficiency of hydrogen, inclusion and alkali removal when combined with chlorine or refining agent injection.
SNIF technologies and systems are continually upgraded with increased refining performance and versatility. The SNIF Sheer NEO system is the latest generation of SNIF technology, providing vastly greater refining efficiency than before. A redesigned spinning nozzle and furnace bottom rib work together to effectively disperse the process gas without creating excessive melt agitation. This patented SNIF Sheer technology can be used to substantially increase the metal flow rate that can be refined, cut process gas flow and decrease upstream furnace processing. The SNIF Sheer system increases bubble dispersion throughout the melt. The flat bath surface reduces splatter during both processing and idle periods, decreasing dross generation and exit trough wave motion.
Benefits of SNIF in-line degassing systems include:
- Small footprint and highly customizable—several options are available for specific applications the compact footprint ensures its fit into existing floor space.
- Free flow of melt through the vessel—SNIF Systems are sized to match the user's metal flow rate and process performance requirements.
- Reduced melt temperature losses and dross formation—graphite block (HB) or immersion (i) vessel heating systems reduce melt temperature loss.
- Increased hydrogen reduction capability—advanced SNIF Sheer NEO nozzle increases hydrogen reduction performance for aerospace and transportation applications.
- Pyrotek offers full refurbishment with replaceable refractory lining at Pyrotek Cortland or a drop-in refractory cartridge for onsite replacement.
- Pyrotek offers two types of tilting models with knuckle joints to help with cleaning and removing heavy deposits.
- A rotating cover can also be added.
- SNIF systems use a patented airlock and gasket sealing system to prevent air from entering the system. This creates an inert atmosphere inside the SNIF chambers which helps decrease dross generation, improves efficiency and extends life of product.
SNIF is an engineering division of Pyrotek devoted to the design and manufacture of high-quality degassing and metal treatment solutions.
