Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Manufacturing Engineer will participate in or lead programs to develop new products and processes, improve existing processes, complete developmental trials, document procedures, and provide equipment support.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Regularly evaluate manufacturing processes to suggest and develop new and improved methods.
  • Effectively support installation and start-up, documentation of procedures, and training on new processes and process upgrades.
  • Provide technical expertise and/or support related to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Engineering teams on product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Design effective tooling and fixtures for manufacturing of fabricated parts.
  • Confer with plant leadership, engineers and machinists regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations that impact production processes.
  • Precisely analyze manufacturing variances (e.g., cycle times, labor costs, material allocation, and manufacturing feasibility).
  • Prepare and provide cost estimates to Sales Team per customer requests.
  • Accurately analyze and plan to maximize workflow efficiency throughout the machine shop and evaluate performance results vs. estimates to provide time studies.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions, as needed, and regularly review manufacturing procedures to reflect the most current processes.
  • Aid Manufacturing Team in the development and implementation of jigs, fixtures, and tooling to reduce lead times and costs.
  • Ensure accuracy of machine instructions, and revise programs to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
  • Order new tools and equipment, and repair tools, as needed.
  • Establish relationships with vendors to identify new tools and learn new tooling techniques that improve production efficiencies.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus three (3) years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the aluminum or foundry industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD/CAM software, required. 
  • VBA programming/coding, preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification(s) and/or Lean manufacturing principles experience, preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Technical and Mechanical Engineering Skills.  Working knowledge of raw materials, production processes, cost and quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.  Ability to use hoists, hand tools and other instruments. General understanding of technical writing, design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.  Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM). Ability to learn about and apply technical products to various industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Core People Skills. Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization. Genuine with high ethical standards and values, and personal integrity and honesty. Ability to apply a large measure of common sense to a variety of situations. 
  • Communication Skills. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and obtain clarification and respond well to questions. Proficiency in writing clearly and concisely and editing work for spelling and grammar. Ability to vary writing style to meet business needs.  Ability to consult cross-functionally, explain technical details, and remain team-oriented and flexible in approach.
  • Computer/Applications Skills.  Proficient computer skills using a variety of software applications systems.  Experience with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Core Business Skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in the handling of proprietary and confidential information Ability to work independently, without significant direction and to use resources effectively to “figure it out”. Strong critical thinking skills, judgment and keen attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to write routine reports/correspondence and act as internal/external spokesperson regarding technology or strategy.  Ability to work under pressure and excel in a fast-paced, self-directed entrepreneurial environment. Must be hands-on and maintain high energy to drive continuous improvement.

Must be able to sit for long periods-of-time, bend and reach, use stairs, lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person and in writing. Effectively use a personal computer, office equipment and telephone.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Generally, work within manufacturing and office environments. In the manufacturing environment employee is regularly exposed to noise, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles, heat and/or cold conditions where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

The minimum and maximum salary range for this full-time position is $80,257- $92,700 + benefits.   

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.  Please note that the compensation details listed in this posted role reflect the base salary only and do not include bonus or benefits.
